The Georgian Center of Washington DC is a charitable organization with a mission to support and promote the Georgian culture, education and innovation in the US. The idea to create such organization first emerged in October 2015, when Washington-based Georgian Diaspora representatives met with President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili. Among other important issues Diaspora highlighted a need to create an initiative that would support and promote the Georgian cause in the United Sates. With the President’s endorsement, a group of seven Georgians, led by Vlad Bregvadze, founded the organization in December 2015 and shortly after they carried out the first charitable project. In December of 2015 one of the founders, George Bitadze traveled to Georgia to hand over the computer equipment and other Christmas presents to students with special needs at the “School for Children of Mothers Monastery of Bebnisi”.

Most of the founders of the Georgian Center are the first generation emigrants who came to USA in the late 1990s with a dream to build a better life. They have maintained their heritage and now passing it to next generation. They are accomplished professionals from all walks of life. One passion that unites them is a desire to give back to the community that created opportunities for their success and to generate similar opportunities for others. They see the Georgian Center organization as a mechanism to share Georgian culture with their colleagues, friends, and compatriots.

The Georgian Center works in close collaboration with Georgian community and Embassy of Georgia in the United States, Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, The State Diaspora Agency of Georgia, USIP, IdEA, USAID, World Bank and other agencies.
